GCSE Results 2019

The English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College are celebrating another excellent set of GCSE results.  Mirroring our excellent Sixth Form results last week, this year’s Progress 8 (value-added) at GCSE looks to be one of the best the school has ever had. The students have collectively achieved a total of sixty-five grade 9’s (or A** in the old grading system) and more than 1 in 5 of the total grades awarded were grade 7-9 (or A – A** in previous years). This places our Higher Attaining students in the top 20% for the country and, like last year, our value-added for all students is in line with the national expectation/averages.


There were many phenomenal individual performances from the class of 2019 and here’s a highlight:

Our top-performing female student, Rosie Tindall, was delighted to open her results and see she had achieved eight grade 9’s and 2 grade 8’s. An outstanding set of results which will not be bettered by many across the country.

Our highest achieving boy, Max Strelitz, was overjoyed to see six grade 9’s, three grade 8’s and one grade 7 when he opened his all-important envelope this morning.  A collection of grades that he was extremely proud of.

Other top performers included Katherine Mulvey and Molly Marshall who both achieved ten GCSE’s each at grade 7 and above with Luke Stokle, Lucy Moran and Josh Lyon also obtaining results made up with a majority of the top grades. 

There were many more fabulous results and it has been a great day with lots of joy and smiling faces.  The class of 2019 have done themselves very proud.

Headteacher, Stephen Hammond, said he was proud of what the students had achieved. He said: “There has been a national push from the DfE for schools to improve the performance of boys against girls and students who are disadvantaged compared to non-disadvantaged students.”

“We are delighted that our three areas which have been identified as areas to improve have all improved significantly from last year.”

“Our boys, our disadvantaged students and our Higher Attaining students have performed much better than last year which is a solid platform on which to aim even higher next year in our new school building.”
