I wrote to you yesterday to let you know that we have had a confirmed case of Covid 19 within the college.
We worked robustly, guided by Public Health England, to identify ‘proximal contacts’ of the student who had tested positive. This resulted in us sending 23 students home to self-isolate for 14 days. Three of these students have tested positive today which has resulted in a further 5 students required to self-isolate.
The students who are self-isolating will not be able to return to college until Monday 5th October – even if they have a negative test in the interim period. This is because of the risk that the virus is in an incubation period at the time of the test and the test results gives a ‘false negative’ reading.
We have taken the additional decision to close the sixth form college, with immediate effect, to enable a deep clean of the sixth form block. The company anticipate that this clean can be carried out tomorrow (23rd September) in which case all students who are not self-isolating can return to college on Thursday 25th September.
If we are further advised by Public Health England in the meantime, then I shall let you know immediately.
We will keep in contact with students to confirm the date of return
