‘Sweet Treat for Alice House Hospice’

Tea, Coffee and Cake was the order of the day at The English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College as they invited Parents and Carers of their new intake of Year 7 students to a Coffee Morning to raise money for Alice House Hospice.

The Coffee Morning, which was held in the main school hall on Friday 1st October, was ran by student representatives from each house under the watchful eye of the house leaders.

Staff and students at EMS are assigned to Houses where everyone is invited to compete in various competitions and activities throughout the year for House Points.

Alice House Hospice are the nominated charity for fundraising this year at English Martyrs after students were invited to nominate a charity close to their hearts.

A heartfelt letter from a Year 7 student, who wishes to be unnamed, turned everyone to tears upon reading, and gave no doubt that the local Hartlepool charity would be this years’ beneficiaries.

The coffee morning was a huge success and raised a total of £849.74.  This will be added to a pot until the donation to the charity in the summer term.

Glenn McLintock, Leader for St. John Boste House said: “On behalf of all the House Leaders I would like to thank the students, staff, parents and carers who supported the coffee morning.”

“It was a wonderful opportunity to welcome families of Year 7 students to the community of English Martyrs, something we have not been able to do for such a long time.”

“We are overwhelmed by their generosity and we hope to raise more money for the charity this year.”

The event also an appearance from the charity’s mascot ‘Alice Mouse’.

Janice Forbes, community fundraiser at Alice House Hospice, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by the students of English Martyrs as their charity of the year.”

"It lovely to attend the charity coffee morning and it was great watching the very talented students performing.”

"I look forward to working with English Martyrs throughout the academic year.”
