Six of our students recently visited St. Michael’s Catholic Academy for a moving and thought‑provoking Holocaust Memorial experience. As the only Catholic school in the North East with a dedicated Holocaust memorial, St. Michael’s offers a unique and powerful space for young people to learn, reflect, and remember.

During the visit, our students laid stones in remembrance of the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust. This simple yet deeply symbolic act encouraged them to pause, reflect, and consider the importance of remembrance, tolerance, unity, and standing against hatred in all its forms.

The morning provided a meaningful opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of this tragic period in history and to recognise why continuing to learn about the Holocaust remains vital today. Our students demonstrated exceptional maturity, respect, and compassion throughout the visit, embodying the values we strive to uphold at EMS.

This experience not only strengthened their historical understanding but also encouraged thoughtful conversation about the importance of building a society rooted in kindness, empathy, and fairness. We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented our school.
