Students from English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College (EMS) enjoyed a fantastic day of competitive golf as ten players took part in the annual Peter McMahon House Golf Trophy at Wynyard Golf Club.
Played in beautiful weather and on a course presented in outstanding condition, the competition showcased the talent, determination and sportsmanship of all those involved. Students produced some excellent scores throughout the day, making for a closely contested event.
The standout performance came from James, who delivered a superb round of golf, recording a gross 73 (one over par). His impressive play earned him 40 Stableford points, securing the Peter McMahon House Golf Trophy and the title of overall winner.
The battle for the remaining podium places was equally competitive. Jude claimed second place with an excellent 38 Stableford points, narrowly finishing ahead of Seb and Alex, who shared third place after both posting 37 points.
Adding an extra layer of excitement to the day was the eagerly anticipated showdown between Mr Gray and Jude. With plenty of friendly rivalry on display, Mr Gray ultimately retained the bragging rights thanks to an impressive round of 84, which earned him 39 Stableford points and a handicap reduction moving forward.
Beyond the individual achievements, the event also contributed valuable points towards the House competition. The final House standings were:
- John Boste House
- Anne Line House
- Thomas More House
- Margaret Clitherow House and John Ingram House (joint fourth)
As always, EMS students represented the school with pride, demonstrating excellent conduct throughout the day both on and off the course.
The school would like to extend its sincere thanks to Wynyard Golf Club for once again hosting the event and providing a superb venue for this year's competition.
Congratulations to all of the students who took part, and especially to James on winning the Peter McMahon House Golf Trophy. The House Golf competition continues to be a highlight of the EMS sporting calendar and another excellent example of students striving for success while representing their Houses with distinction.
