Dear Parents/ Carers,

As promised, I am writing to you with some more notifications and reminders ahead of the Academic Year 2025/26

Preparing your child for EMS School Year 2025/26

Uniform Guidance and School Ties 2025/26

On returning to school in September 2025 the system for tie identification will change; this is to support the move from the ‘house’ identification system for ties to the ‘year group’ identification system. This improvement will assist the school, most specifically we are now operating the new ‘spilt’ lunch system.

Please can your child continue to come with their existing tie for the remainder of this school year. We will then be asking for children to donate any ties which are no longer useful to them (as their colour has changed) on the final day in July. We will use these to assist the Student Support Services team in 2025/26.

All children will be given an appropriate tie on the return to school in September 2025

Year 7 - Yellow
Year 8 - Green
Year 9 - Red
Year 10 - Purple
Y11 – Blue

Please be aware that this in no way signifies the termination of the long-standing House system traditions here at EMS. We are planning for this element of school life to expand in 2025/26 – so please look out for details.

I know that you will be preparing to purchase and/or obtain essential items for the new school year and in last week’s letter we included a link to guidance. Please refer to this link as a reminder around our standards in relation to uniform. Please be very mindful when purchasing trousers, skirts, shoes and coats – the picture examples in the guidance are a useful guide. Uniform.

Pastoral Care at EMS

We have various pastoral support teams here at EMS, who work together to offer a holistic package for all pupils so that we can support you as a community to maximise the potential for our children.

Please continue to contact the school, when necessary, by existing methods of contact.

So that we can best support all children the form tutor system has been reorganised for 2025/26; this may mean that your child may move form class and/or have a new form tutor. This will allow us to remain in the same form groups, in the overwhelming majority of cases, for the reminder of your child’s journey here in Key Stage 3 and 4 at EMS. These essential challenges are widespread so that this will not be necessary again for many years to come. Please look out for details about this coming in July.

You may be contacted by SEND or specialist teams for example the SAVIO centre team (where applicable), Student Services and Medical, Safeguarding and Attendance, as well as by the academic and pastoral lead teams who work in partnership with each year group. All contact to the school is triaged and then you will be directed to the most appropriate first contact to support you.

Please be mindful that the majority of contact requests for a Headteacher in a large secondary school will be triaged and you will be contacted by the most appropriate member of staff to deal with your request.

For 2025/26 the year group contacts will be:

Year 7: Mr. Hutchinson and Mrs. Hodgson
Year 8: Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Corcoran
Year 9: Miss Gilbride and Mrs. Stirk
Year 10: Mr. Blackwood and Miss Dadds
Year 11: Miss Taylor and Mrs. Sweeting.

They will be writing to you at the start of the school year.

If you have any other questions, please contact the school office who will be able to direct your query to the appropriate member of staff. I will be in touch by regular letter correspondence as we work together to be prepared for the new school year.
