Dear Parents/Carers,
I am writing to provide you with key information regarding your child’s studies in Hospitality and Catering as part of the Year 10 curriculum.
This course offers students a valuable introduction to the hospitality and catering industry, combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Over the academic year, students will explore topics such as food preparation and presentation, nutrition, food safety, and the structure of the hospitality and catering sector. These elements are designed to prepare students for the Level 1/2 Vocational Award in Hospitality and Catering, which is assessed through both coursework, practical tasks and a written exam.
As part of their practical lessons, students will be required to prepare a variety of dishes in our specialist food rooms. The school will provide some of the necessary ingredients; however, students will also be asked to bring specific ingredients from home. We understand that this may not always be possible, so please be assured that if students are unable to bring ingredients, the school will provide them to ensure full participation in the lesson. A detailed list will be provided in advance to ensure families have sufficient time to prepare.
In addition to practical work, students will be expected to complete regular homework tasks. These assignments are designed to reinforce classroom learning and support progress towards their final qualification. We kindly ask for your support in encouraging your child to complete all homework to the best of their ability and submit it on time.
To ensure a safe and productive learning environment, students must attend lessons with the correct equipment, including any required ingredients. Consistent preparation and engagement are essential to success in this subject.
Should you have any questions or wish to discuss your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Nicola Hutchinson
