Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted and honoured to introduce myself as the new Head of School at English Martyrs Catholic School and Sixth Form College. As an ex-student of the School and Sixth Form, I am fully aware of the importance it holds within our Catholic community and the town of Hartlepool. I am an active member of the local parish and regularly attend St John Vianneys Church. I am also a father to two girls, whom in the coming years, will also attend English Martyrs.

On a personal level, I have always had the ambition to become ‘Head of School’. I have intentionally gained experience throughout my career in both academic and pastoral leadership roles, having previously worked in two large secondary schools in both Gateshead and Darlington. Within my leadership roles I have driven school improvements and have experience of working with some of the best performing Schools in the country. These experiences have shaped my philosophy around education.

My ambition is simple yet resolute: to deliver outstanding performance and exceptional care to all of our students. I am determined that every child not only achieves their full potential, but thrives in a safe, supportive and inspiring environment. The English Martyrs virtues are important and will be front and centre of everything that we do, ‘it is who we are’. We will reward and celebrate students who display our virtues, within both the school and the community. These virtues will become integral within our student’s education and will ensure that they are fully prepared to succeed in the modern world.

Parents and Carers are a child’s first teacher and essential foundations of a successful education. Improving communication with parents and carers will be a priority. It is important that you have a voice and that as a School we are approachable and open to listen to your concerns, worries or thoughts about our school. Opportunities for this will be presented over the coming months and your voice will be important in helping us build our vision for the future. I will be sharing a weekly bulletin with all Parents and Carers, in which I will be keeping you informed about what is happening within the School and Sixth Form. Staff will be promoting the many incredible things that happen throughout the academic year and there will be important information included for your attention.

The start of this academic year has been fantastic. There is both a calm and purposeful atmosphere in our corridors and within our classrooms. I have already met many of our young people, who have shown themselves to be polite and courteous. They are a credit to the school and their families.

I look forward to sharing this exciting journey with you.

Yours Sincerely,
Mr G Thompson,
Head of School
