Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing to you regarding my letter dated 4th June, regarding the trip to Newcastle and Northumbria University open days. Newcastle University have contacted the college and asked us to make you aware of the following:

‘Potential disruption on Campus
The safety and wellbeing of our visitors is our upmost priority, so we want to make you aware that like many other universities in the UK, a small number of our students are engaged in protests regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Palestine and Israel. This includes an encampment at Newcastle University and as a university, we respect this right to peaceful protest and lawful freedom of speech. It is therefore likely that there will be protest activity on campus during your visit.

Our priority is ensuring you, your students and all our visitors can enjoy the Open Day experience and we’re working hard to mitigate any impact. However, we understand this may influence some students’ decisions to attend.’

The University will have Mrs Edmundson’s mobile number and students have been asked to complete a short form with their contact details on so that they can be made aware of any changes to the programme. They can find the link to this form on Teams.

Students will have access to a school mobile phone number so that Mrs Edmundson is contactable throughout the trip.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the college.

Yours faithfully,
Mrs L Henderson,
Head of Sixth Form
